Whale crochet pattern

 










Materials:

-      Weight 4 worsted yarn (2 colours)

-      4mm crochet hook

-      Safety eyes

-      Poly fill stuffing

-      Scissors

-      Yarn needle

-     Stitch marker

 

Abbreviations:

-      MR – magic ring

-      Ch - chain

-      Sc – single crochet

-      Inc – increase

-      Dec – decrease

-      Dc- double crochet

-      Ss- slip stitch

-      FO – fasten off

 

Pattern is worked in a continuous round, DO NOT join at the end of each row.



 

Head and body (colour A)

Row 1: 10 sc in MR (10)

Row 2: (inc, sc) x5 (15)

Row 3: (inc, 2 sc) x 5 (20)

Row 4: (inc, 3 sc) x 5 (25)

Row 5-10 (6 rows): 25 sc (25)

Add eyes between row 5 and 6

Row 11: 7 sc, dec, 2 sc, dec, 2 sc, dec, 8 sc (22)

Row 12: 6 sc, dec, 2 sc, dec, 2 sc, dec, 6 sc (19)

Row 13: 5 sc, dec, 2 sc, dec, 2 sc, dec, 4 sc (16)

Row 14: 3 sc, dec, 2 sc, dec, 2 sc, dec, 3 sc (13)

Row 15: 2 sc, dec, 2 sc, dec, 2 sc, dec, 1 sc (10)

Row 16: 4 sc, 3 inc, 1 sc, dec (12)

Row 17: 3 dec, 4 sc, dec (8)

Row 18: 8 sc (8)

FO, leave long tail.

Stuff the head and body


Sew the remaining hole shut horizontally with the tail and yarn needle. See picture.








Tail fins (make two)

Row 1: ch 6, ss in first ch (6)

Row 2: ch 2, 5 dc, ss in the ch 2 (acts as a dc) (6)

Row 3: ch 2, dec (with double crochets), 1 dc, dec, ss in ch 2 (4)

Ss in second stitch from the hook. FO

Sew tail fins on the end of the body.


Fins (make two)

Row 1: 6 sc in MR (6)

Row 2-3 (2 rows): 6 sc (6)

FO, leave long tail.

Sew one fin on each side of the whale from row 7 to 9.

 

Water (colour B) Make 3

Ch 10, 2 sc in each stitch (17)

FO

Sew 3 spirals on top of the head between row 7 and 8.
