Mermaid kitty crochet pattern

 

Materials:

-     2 colours of weight 6 blanket yarn (Colour A = cat colour, Colour B = mermaid tail colour)

-     6 mm crochet hook

-     Safet eyes and nose

-     Black acrylic yarn (for the whiskers)

-     Stitch marker

-     Scissors

-     Yarn needle

Abbreviations:

MR = magic ring

Ch = chain

Sc = single crochet

Inc = increase

Dec = decrease

Hdc = half double crochet

Ss = slip stitch

FO = fasten off

 

This pattern is worked in a continuous round, DO NOT join at the end of each row unless the pattern says so.

Colour A (cat colour)

Row 1: 10 sc in MR (10)

Row 2: (inc, sc) x 5 (15)

Row 3: (inc, 2 sc) x 5 (20)

Row 4: (inc, 3 sc) x 5 (25)

Row 5-7 (3 rows): 25 sc (25)

Row 8: (2 dec, 1 sc) x 5 (15)

Add safety eyes between rows 4 and 5, 5 stitches apart from each other.

Add the nose on row 5, between the eyes.

Embroider the whiskers with the black acrylic yarn and your yarn needle.

Your cats head should look like this. (see picture)

Row 9: (dec, sc) x 5 (10)

Row 10: (inc, sc) x 5 (15)

Row 11: (inc, 2 sc) x 5 (20)

Row 12- 14: 20 sc (20)

FO colour A

Switch to colour B (mermaid tail colour)

Row 15: ss in the front loop of the next stitch. Ch 2, IN THE FRONT LOOP ONLY, 19 hdc. Ss to the ch 2 you did at the beginning of this row.

Row 16: ch 1, IN THE REMAINING BACK LOOP FROM ROW 14 (they will be easy to see, as they are in colour A), 5 sc, inc, 8 sc, inc, 4 sc. (21)

Stuff the head

Row 17-20 (4 rows): 21 sc (21)

Stuff the torso

Row 21: (dec, 5 sc) x 3 (18)

Row 22: (dec, 4 sc) x 3 (15)

Row 23: (dec, sc) x 5 (10)

Row 24: 10 sc (10)

Stuff the tail.

 We will be making the tail fins. Ss in the 6^th stitch from your hook. (See picture) You have now separated the tail in two circles of 5 stitches each.

DO THIS FOR BOTH FINS (both “circles” of 5 stitches.)

Row 25: 5 inc (10)

Row 26: 10 sc (10)

Row 27: 5 dec (5)

Row 28: 2 dec, ss in next stitch

Ears (colour A)

(Do this on each side of the head)

Ss onto row 4 of the head, approximately 3 stitches away from the eye, ch 3, sc in the second ch from the hook, hdc in the next ch, then ss onto row 3.

Arms (colour A)

Make 2

Row 1: 6 sc in MR (6)

Row 2-5: 6 sc (6)

FO, leave long tail for sewing.

Sew the arm shut before sewing onto the body.

Sew arms onto row 11, on both sides of the body.
